Halifax: Have you heard? There’s a new Minister for Volunteerism… (August 21, 2009)

While in Halifax, I had the opportunity to meet with the new Minister for Volunteerism. Minister Marilyn More clearly understands the sector. She comes from the sector and was involved in the Canadian Volunteerism Initiative of a few years ago.

I believe that she will be a strong and credible advocate for the sector within government. And more importantly perhaps I think that she will be key to building bridges between government and charities and nonprofits in her province so that two sectors can come to the table to look at ways of collaborating and working together. This is a real opportunity and it will be interesting to see how things unfold.
