In mid September Marcel and I arrived in Regina for a Community Conversation. Thanks to Joanne Grant and Tracey Mann of the United Way of Regina for bringing the group together.
Participants talked about the need to take control of our agenda and at the same time as a sector we need to take the “blinders off” and really look at the future.
We had an interesting discussion about the use of social media in the sector. I was surprised at the number of organizations which are using vehicles like Facebook and Twitter especially to reach young people. Social media is an important part of this initiative, as we know that not everyone will be able to attend the face to face gatherings. This Blog is our first foray into this way of communicating. I think that as a sector we have much to learn about how to effectively use these new tools. It is becoming an essential part of how we will do our business and we need to get over our collective reluctance (this is coming from someone who a few months ago could barely spell BLOG!).
I would welcome thoughts and views regarding social media in the sector. How are you using it? Why have we been so slow to embrace this technology? How could it been used as part of this initiative? Post away.
